Authentic Hospitality & Expert Guidance Forget the logistics; we’ve handled everything. From traditional farm-to-table dinners in remote mountain guesthouses to boutique accommodations in the city, you’ll experience the legendary warmth of Albanian hospitality. Guided by professional mountain experts, this journey ensures safety, comfort, and deep cultural insights at every turn.
Your adventure begins with a journey toward the “cradle of Albanian culture,” Shkodër. After a scenic break by Lake Shkodra, we ascend into the heart of the North. The road winds through the dramatic Thore Pass, revealing the jagged limestone cathedrals of the Alps before descending into the mythical village of Theth. After settling into your traditional guesthouse, we take a gentle hike to the Grunas Waterfall, where glacial waters plunge 30 meters into a turquoise basin. The evening concludes with a farm-to-table dinner under the shadow of peaks rising 2,000 meters above.
Today, you conquer the most iconic trail in the Balkans. Leaving Theth behind, we climb toward the Valbona Pass (1,800m). The path winds through ancient beech forests and alpine meadows, offering breathtaking views of “Maja e Jezercës,” the highest peak in the range. To ensure maximum comfort, your main luggage is transported via pack-horses, leaving you free to enjoy the scenery with just a light daypack. The descent into the Valbona Valley is a masterpiece of geological formations and vibrant colors.
A day dedicated to the peaceful rhythms of highland life. We walk along the crystal-blue Valbona River, framed by the towering “Malisia e Gjakovës” mountains. A gentle trail leads to the remote hamlet of Kukaj, where you can witness the timeless lifestyle of local shepherds. The afternoon is yours to relax: enjoy a glass of mountain raki by the fireplace or find a quiet spot by the river for meditation and fresh alpine air.
We bid farewell to the mountains and head toward the vibrant energy of Tirana. The Albanian capital is a fascinating mosaic of Ottoman, Italian, and Communist-era architecture. Explore Skanderbeg Square, the colorful Et’hem Bey Mosque, and the “Blloku” district—once a forbidden zone for citizens, now the heart of Tirana’s modern life. It is the perfect moment to experience Albania’s world-class coffee culture and urban flair.
Overnight: Tirana
Heading south, we discover the “Grand Canyon of Albania.” We hike the dramatic rim of the Osum Canyon, where the river has carved spectacular vertical cliffs over millennia. After a picnic overlooking the gorge, we continue to Berat (UNESCO). Known as the “City of a Thousand Windows,” Berat is a living museum of white Ottoman houses and an ancient hilltop fortress that remains inhabited to this day.
Prepare for one of the most spectacular coastal views in the Mediterranean. We ascend into Llogara National Park, where dense pine and fir forests suddenly give way to the vast blue of the Ionian Sea. We follow a ridge trail along the Ceraunian Mountains, offering a “bird’s-eye view” of the entire Albanian Riviera. Watching the sunset from this altitude is a moment of pure magic.
Descending into the heart of the Riviera, we reach Himarë, a coastal town with a distinct Mediterranean soul. We take a leisurely coastal walk through ancient olive groves toward the hidden bay of Livadhi. The afternoon is dedicated entirely to relaxation: swim in the sapphire waters, soak up the sun, or enjoy fresh seafood at a local waterfront taverna.
A day of archeological wonders and natural marvels. We explore Butrint National Park (UNESCO), an ancient city where Greek, Roman, and Venetian ruins sit nestled in a lush woodland lagoon. On our return journey to Tirana, we stop at the Blue Eye, a mesmerizing underwater spring of electric blue water over 50 meters deep. The trip concludes with a celebratory farewell dinner in the capital.
Overnight: Tirana
After a relaxed breakfast and some last-minute souvenir shopping, we provide a private transfer to Tirana International Airport for your flight home, carrying the unforgettable memories of the “Peaks to Turquoise Tides” journey.

Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from hiking in Albania, but this trip was unreal. The trek over the Valbona Pass was tough but the views are just insane totally worth the sweat. Huge shoutout to the Nea team for the mule transport for our bags, my knees definitely thanked them! Staying in the local guesthouses in Theth felt so authentic, and I’m pretty sure I ate my weight in mountain honey and fresh bread. Ending the trip by diving into the turquoise water at the Riviera was the perfect reset button. If you want a trip that isn’t the typical tourist trap, this is it.
